JON SLAN (CEO/Executive Producer)

Jon Slan is a pioneer and key figure in the Canadian film and television industry with over 30 years of experience in the production and distribution of quality entertainment programming. At present, Jon Slan is the President of Slanted Wheel Entertainment (November 2002) an innovative film and television company based in Toronto and Los Angeles.
As the head of Slanted Wheel Entertainment Inc. Jon has developed and Executive Produced A Friend of the Family, a Hitchcock-esque thriller about the real life serial killer David Snow, Plague City: SARS in Toronto, a tense, suspenseful dramatic re-telling of 2002’s outbreak of the deadly virus, Alice, I Think, a half-hour family comedy for CTV and Mayerthorpe, the recipient of Best Movie and Best Screenplay Gemini Awards. He is currently in production on a 2-hour pilot for CTV and SPACE for the dramatic series Borealis.
Prior to founding Slanted Wheel, Jon was chairman and chief executive officer of Paragon Entertainment Corporation, located in Toronto, Los Angeles and London, England. Combining his creative and business savvy, Jon created a number of successful feature film and television projects. Among his early efforts were the 20th Century Fox release with Donald Sutherland, Threshold, and An American Christmas Carol with Henry Winkler for ABC TV. In 1994, he diversified Paragon through the purchase of Handmade Films, purchased from George Harrison, and re-started the dormant company as a viable production entity with such films as Intimate Relations with Julie Walters and Rupert Graves for Fox Searchlight, The James Gang released by Polygram and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. In addition, Jon served as Executive Producer of Wyatt Earp starring Kevin Costner and Dennis Quaid for Warner Brothers. For television he created the Emmy Award-winning Lamb Chop’s Play-along with Shari Lewis, Kratt’s Creatures and Zaboomafoo all for PBS Television. He also produced the acclaimed television movie Kissinger and Nixon for TNT.
Jon was also a co-founder of Superchannel, Canada’s first and most profitable pay television service, and a co-founder, shareholder and director of YTV, Canada’s number one youth network.
He is a Doctor of English Literature, educated at Columbia and the University of Toronto.

RACHEL RAFELMAN (Vice President, Creative)
Rachel Rafelman began her very productive relationship with Slanted Wheel Entertainment in 2002, at the company’s inception, as Director of Development. Four years later, after several projects had been put into production, she became Vice President, Creative.
Rafelman’s film and television career followed a successful career as an editor, arts columnist and journalist. She has authored several books, served as editor of an arts magazine and written full-time for the Globe & Mail, where she also penned a weekly column, “My Favourite Object”, which explored the “design” passions of celebrities. She has also written features for many magazines and newspapers. Among them: Toronto Life, Saturday Night, Canadian House & Home, Toronto Star, The National Post, Today’s Parent (column), Style at Home, and more. She is a nominee for a National Magazine Award.
At Slanted Wheel Entertainment, she continues to locate properties to be optioned for the big and small screen, help assemble and supervise the creative team for development, establish and maintain relationships with creative and business personnel, work closely with the writers, and prepare and present “pitches” to networks and studios. She is also closely involved with all stages from pre-production to final cut.

SAMANTHA SLAN (Literary Manager)
Samantha Slan has been passionately involved in the film and television industry for over fifteen years. In LA, Samantha worked for The Gersh Agency before moving on to be a Story Editor at Echo Lake Entertainment (Water, Tsotsi, Away From Her). Demonstrating a passion for identifying and developing new and established talent, in addition to scouting and bringing in material to produce, she moved into a Literary Manager role.
In early 2009, Samantha launched her own management/production company in LA. She has since joined forces with Slanted Wheel Entertainment, serving as the LA production/management division. Samantha has developed an impressive list of clients working in film, television, and new media in both Canada and the United States. She is also spearheading several projects on Slanted Wheel’s development slate.
